Overview
Big Boulder Mountain is the older of the two ski areas at Jack Frost and Big Boulder in Kidder Township, in the Pocono Mountains. It opened in 1947, and employee John Guresh is credited with developing the first usable snowmaking equipment there in the 1950s. Its three main terrain parks include LOVE Park, inspired by the Philadelphia skateboarding spot. In the 2020 to 2021 season Vail Resorts cut back the parks and marketed Big Boulder as a learning hill.
Culture
Big Boulder shares its township and owner with Jack Frost. Kidder Township had 1,935 people at the 2010 census. Vail says its Mid Atlantic ski areas serve guests from Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, central and southern New Jersey, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The lower lodge at Big Boulder Park has an outdoor grill, a bar and a pro shop.
