Overview
Whitetail Resort is on Two Top Mountain in the Bear Pond Mountains of Pennsylvania, between Mercersburg and Clear Spring, Maryland. It opened in 1991, joined Snow Time, Inc. a few years later, passed to Peak Resorts in 2018 and to Vail Resorts in 2019. Its trails are laid out so each ability level has its own area and lift, a design that won Snow Country Magazine's 1992 Best Overall Resort Design Award. Seasons usually run 80 to 100 days.
Culture
Whitetail serves the Baltimore Washington metropolitan area, 89 miles from Washington, D.C., and 92 miles from Baltimore. It gets crowded on weekends and holidays and is quieter on weekdays. Mercersburg, a borough 7 miles north of the resort, had 1,561 people in 2010. Vail says its Mid Atlantic ski areas offer local options and easy overnight weekend trips.
