Overview
Alpine Valley Ski Area is in Munson Township, Geauga County, Ohio, east of Chesterland. Thomas D. Apthorp built it in 1965 and ran it until 2007. It sits in Ohio's snow belt and gets about 120 inches of natural snow a year, the most of any Ohio ski resort, with an average season of 93 days. Vail Resorts announced its acquisition in July 2019. It has nine trails on 72 acres, Ohio's largest half pipe and night skiing.
Culture
Alpine Valley's ski school has over 70 instructors and is registered with the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Vail lists Cleveland among the metro markets its Midwest ski areas draw from and says these areas give beginners easy access to beginner programs and offer night skiing for young adults and families.
