Overview
Hyland Hills Ski Area is in Bloomington, Minnesota, just south of Minneapolis, owned and operated by Three Rivers Park District. It was known as Normandale Ski Hill by 1945, and the Hennepin County Park Reserve District later bought and renamed it. It receives about 160,000 visitors a year and opened a 36,000 square foot chalet after a $13.3 million renovation in 2016. Three Rivers Racing, its youth alpine club, has trained racers who reached national, World Cup and Olympic level races.
Culture
Hyland sits near the Mall of America and is one of three alpine ski areas in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. It hosts USSA freestyle and racing teams, the G Team snowboard club, and Nordic ski jumping training run by the Minneapolis Ski Club. In summer the park hosts auto shows, outdoor movies, live music and disc golf.
