Overview
Mount Brighton is a ski and snowboard area in Brighton, Michigan, that opened in 1961 on man made slopes with 230 feet of vertical. Almost all its snow is made from water stored in an onsite reservoir. It has 25 runs, five chairlifts, seven surface lifts and a terrain park. The Bruhn family owned it until Vail Resorts bought it in December 2012. It appeared in the 1993 film Aspen Extreme.
Culture
Ski and snowboard clubs are a popular activity for suburban and metro Detroit elementary and high school students, and Mount Brighton teaches many of these groups. XLR8 Alpine Racing trains young racers here, and NASTAR and Epic Race events run on weekends. Vail lists Detroit among the metro markets its Midwest ski areas draw from.
