Overview
Mount Bohemia is a ski area at the northern end of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, in Mohawk, that opened in 2000. It has the highest vertical drop in the Midwest and relies on 250 to 300 inches of lake effect snow a year, the most of any Midwest resort, with no snowmaking or grooming. Its runs are rated black diamond and harder, plus three intermediate runs. It also offers the only cat skiing in the Midwest, at Voodoo Mountain.
Culture
Keweenaw County is Michigan's northernmost and least populous county, with 2,046 people at the 2020 census. Nearby Lac La Belle has an active summer tourist trade with cottages and resorts, and in winter Mount Bohemia draws skiers and snowboarders there. Its ungroomed, expert terrain is aimed at advanced skiers and riders.
