Overview
Boyne Mountain Resort is a ski resort near Boyne Falls and Boyne City in northern Michigan, operated by Boyne Resorts. Everett Kircher, Jim Christianson and John Norton bought the site for $1 in 1948 and opened it in 1949. It still uses parts of the world's first chairlift, built for Sun Valley in 1936. With Boyne Highlands it introduced the world's first triple (1963) and quad (1965) chairlifts. Its centerpiece is the Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa, and Avalanche Bay is Michigan's largest indoor water park.
Culture
Boyne Falls is a village of 358 people (2020 census) in Charlevoix County, and the resort sits just southeast of it. Beyond skiing, the resort runs two golf courses, a zip line tour, the Avalanche Bay water park and SkyBridge Michigan, a timber towered suspension bridge that opened in 2022. Boyne Mountain has ten chairlifts, 60 runs and four terrain parks.
